New Year’s resolutions & revolutions… time to party!



Don’t get too carried away with making those New Year’s resolutions. Take time to reflect back on all the good things that 2014 brought along and imagine the potential that 2015 holds. Consider too how January 1st brought about some significant changes, including a revolution or two!

Rio de Janeiro was first discovered by the Portuguese seafarer, Concalo Coelho on January 1, 1502... now there’s a city that knows how to party!


In 1622 the Papal Chancery adopted Jan 1st as beginning of the year (previously it was Mar 25). Now we place great significance on January 1st as a fresh start to the year…. it started here.

On January 1st, 1651, Charles Stuart II was crowned king on Scotland…. I’m sure those Scots knew how to party!


President-elect, Abraham Lincoln declares slavery in Confederate states unlawful on January 1, 1861.


On January 1st, 1880, construction began on the Panama Canal.


On January 1st, 1986 International Peace Year began… let it continue!
